SCE&G is increasing flows into the Lower Saluda River
SCE&G is increasing flows into the Lower Saluda River to the Red Range in an effort to lower the lake level prior to arrival of Hurricane Florence. This will increase river levels on both the Lower Saluda and Congaree Rivers.
This will also result in a drop in dissolved oxygen in the Lower Saluda River below state standards.
SCE&G will reduce generation and return flows to normal levels after the storm has passed, or it is determined that doing so will not compromise dam safety.
You can see current conditions and planned operations for the Lower Saluda on SCE&G’s website here: https://www.sceg.com/about-us/lower-saluda-river
And you can see river levels across the state on the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) website here: https://waterdata.usgs.gov/sc/nwis/rt
