SC Department of Natural Resources stocking Saluda River, in Lexington County, with trout

The freshwater fisheries section of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, in December, started the process of stocking thousands of catchable-sized trout into the lower Saluda River. The trout come from the Walhalla State Fish Hatchery and will be delivered to multiple locations along the river, which flows into West Columbia, with the Broad River to form the Congaree River.

The SC DNR staff stocks nearly 30,000 trout each year in the lower Saluda from December through February for anglers to enjoy. Those who target these fish are reminded that from the eastbound I-20 bridge downstream to Stacey’s Ledge is year-round catch and release fishing for all species of cold water trout. (SCDNR Photo)
