
SC Attorney General Alan Wilson addresses Cayce-West Columbia Chamber Business Breakfast
South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson was the guest speaker at the Cayce-West Columbia Chamber Business Breakfast, Tuesday. It was held at Stone River in West Columbia.
In introducing Wilson, Chamber President and CEO Tim James said Wilson grew up in Springdale and is now the longest-serving AG in South Carolina history. Wilson took office in 2011. He oversees a staff of 300 in the AG’s office and Wilson has 90 attorneys working in the office.
James said Wilson works with many law enforcement agencies in the state and Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon was in attendance.
Wilson said he worked at the Anchor Café and Reeley’s Body Shop, both on Meeting Street, West Columbia, and his roots are in the local community.
He also spoke about the prevalence of human trafficking and said the state of South Carolina has been on the forefront of making penalties harsher for human traffickers. He said South Carolina now has some of the toughest laws against human trafficking.
Wilson also said task forces have been set up to fight Internet predators. And he said Artificial Intelligence can be used to produce fake images of children for exploitation purposes.
