Savage Craft is “Ground Zero” for St. Paddy’s Day in West Columbia, and where else can you go Irish?

St. Patrick’s Day is March 17, or next Monday, but the celebration is Saturday.

St. Patrick’s Day celebrations concentrate on Irish-themed parties, with drinks and food. Many will celebrate the spirit of the Irish by dressing in green and eating traditional Irish dishes. There are also street parades on St. Patrick’s Day in many large cities. Pubs and brew houses often hold parties or have special deals. That is the case in West Columbia.

They are billing it as West Columbia’s biggest, greenest party of the year. Savage Craft Ale Works, at 430 Center Street, will be filled with the spirit of the Irish with food specials, and live music, Irish-style, in Savage Craft’s outdoor pavilion all day, Saturday.

“Our St. Patrick’s Day event gets bigger and bigger every year,” said Victoria Porter, Savage Craft manager. “We are adding more music and more specials this year and we invite everyone to come and enjoy the spring weather and St. Patrick’s Day. We want to serve and entertain the people of West Columbia, and everyone else who wants to celebrate the Irish.”

The Bograts, a crowd favorite, will play from 2 until 5 p.m. Barleyjuice will follow, starting at 5:30 and playing until 7:30 p.m. The final band to play is Tuatha Dea. Tuatha Dea comes on at 8 until 10 p.m.

In addition to all the bands scheduled, there will be an Irish Fiddler playing through the day, along with face painting for the children, or child-at-heart, from noon until 3 p.m. There is no charge for entry and an overflow parking lot is located at Capitol Square.

The menu goes Irish
The Savage Craft  Armory will be open from 11:30 a.m. until 10 p.m., with cafeteria-style service. There will be a special St. Patrick’s Day festival menu featuring corned beef and cabbage. There will also be eggrolls for a quick bite, as well as other favorites. Savage Craft will also offer a limited supply (until sold-out)  of T-Shirts.

WECO Bottle and Biergarten
Since St. Patrick’s Day coincides with the onslaught of spring. In that spirit, the staff at WECO Bottle and Biergarten, at 626 Meeting Street, is getting ready this week. The plastic covering that was put up to hold in the heat for the winter months has been taken down at WECO Biergarten.
