Firefighting equipment was blocking Fernandina Road Tuesday evening. It was closed between St Andrews Road and Evelyn Drive. Local residents were asked to use alternate routes and detours to get to their homes.

Irmo Fire District crews along with the Columbia Fire Department were putting out a vegetation fire in the 3500 block of Fernandina Road. Approximately one acre of heavy brush was involved. No structures are involved and there were are no injuries reported. Crews were at the site, and the road was blocked until after 7 p.m., according to the Irmo Fire District.
