Riverwalk Wayfinding Signage added thanks to effort from state representatives and local governments

State Sen. Nikki Setzler and State Rep. Micah Caskey secured funding of more than $150,000 through a South Carolina Parks, Recreation, and Tourism (SCPRT) Grant to add over 40 various wayfinding signs to the West Columbia Riverwalk and the City of Cayce Riverwalk.

The signage leads Riverwalk goers to various places throughout both cities, including shops and restaurants in the River and River Arts Districts and historical stops along the Riverwalks. Between the two cities of West Columbia and Cayce, there are over 13 miles of lighted, paved pathways, and wooden boardwalks along the Congaree River. The Riverwalks include amenities such as exercise equipment, picnic tables, benches overlooking scenic views, sculpted art, restrooms, historical markers, and emergency call boxes.

The first four signs were installed at the West Columbia Riverwalk Park and Amphitheater and the Lyles Street Trailhead to the Cayce Riverwalk (shown in the photos below).  The remaining signage will be installed along the Riverwalks in the new year.

“I am extremely proud to have been able to secure a grant for the City of West Columbia and a grant for the City of Cayce for wayfinding signs along the Riverwalks and Riverwalk Arts District. It is a continuation of our joint effort to develop the River and River Arts Districts in both cities and the economic development of our community,” said Senator Nikki Setzler.

Representative Micah Caskey: “I hope that these new signs will make it even easier for more people to come to enjoy all that we have to offer along the river.”

City of West Columbia Mayor Tem Miles said, “I am thankful for the funds Senator Setzler and Representative Caskey got for this project. These signs will help folks navigate through the Riverwalk and find all the great attractions in the River District of West Columbia and Cayce.“

“We are thankful for the incredible support at the State level for one of our greatest natural resources and local attractions – the Cayce Riverwalk along the Congaree River. Senator Setzler and Representative Caskey have had a long-standing vision for supporting both Cayce and West Columbia in our collaborative efforts. This project connects the Riverwalk to the Cayce River Arts District and more. The natural beauty and accessibility of the Riverwalk is vital to our region, and we are excited to take this next step!” stated Cayce Mayor, Elise Partin.
