River District Association holds its first meeting

The River District Association held its first official meeting Thursday. It was held at the new non-profit Carolina Together on Meeting Street in West Columbia.

Members attending discussed ways to promote River District businesses and a plan to add new members, said Steve Cohen of Carolina Together.

The River District Association is a non-profit organization that promotes the growth and viability of small and independently owned businesses in The River District, from Riverwalk, on the Congaree River, to Triangle City.

“We want the businesses in this area to have a strong voice,” said Bill Mooneyhan last month at the River District’s ribbon-cutting. “Many of the River District members are solid, long-standing establishments. The backbone of this community.”

Mooneyhan said Thursday, “We want as many new businesses, too. We will focus on being a force for all businesses in the area.”
