The ribbon was cut on the Chapin Business and Technology Park at Brighton, Monday afternoon.  Lexington County developed the 220-acre business and technology park near the entrance-way to Chapin and Interstate 26.

Lexington County Council Chairwoman Debbie Summers said the park, that has been planned for years, is “worth waiting on.” She called it “big stuff,” and thanked all of the entities involved in its completion.

Lexington County Councilman Todd Cullum has long been a proponent of the necessity for property ready for economic development.
“To compete, you have to have something to show them,” Cullum said.

The county has two other business parks. One in Batesburg-Leesville and the Saxe-Gotha Industrial Park, outside of Cayce, where Amazon and Nephron Pharmaceuticals are located.

In addition to the Chapin park, the Mungo Company is planning a 200-acre residential and commercial complex adjacent to the park. It’s intended to provide a work-live-play community that will be attractive to businesses looking to capitalize on Chapin’s proximity to the interstate and Lake Murray, the award-winning schools, as well as the productive, skilled workforce in the region.
