Resident gets out OK, animal injured in fire

The Lexington County Fire Service, EMS and Irmo Fire District were on scene of a two-story residential structure fire in the 100 block of Cedar Vale Drive, Sunday afternoon.

Upon arrival, fire units observed heavy smoke and flames coming from the home. Firefighters began exterior fire attack operations before proceeding inside to finish extinguishing the blaze.

One resident was in the home at the time of the fire, but was able to exit and was uninjured. One animal was injured in the fire; the extent of its injuries are unknown.

The fire was put under control and firefighters worked on residual hotspots that could reignite. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

In total, 11 fire units and 31 personnel responded to the scene, along with one EMS unit.
