Rescue conducted on the Saluda River, near zoo

Personnel from the Columbia Fire Department’s Swiftwater Rescue team were needed on the Saluda River near Riverbanks Zoo Saturday afternoon. Four people became stranded on part of the Mill Race Dam due to high water levels.
Everyone was rescued and brought to shore safely, according to a CFD report. CFD photo.

The river was high and moving fast Saturday due to a release of water at the Lake Murray Dam to help in the Canoeing for Kids event.
