Renderings of the Riverwalk Pedestrian Bridge in West Columbia presented at the West Columbia City Council meeting, Monday

In September of 2023, the City of West Columbia announced that a pedestrian bridge and park access area would be constructed near the Botanical Gardens entrance to the Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens on Mohawk Drive, in West Columbia.

At the special West Columbia City Council meeting, Monday, Tara Greenwood, assistant city administrator of development, presented some renderings of the pedestrian bridge. She said that the the pedestrian bridge will be 12-feet wide. It will have some covered overlooks of the river. Greenwood also said that 60 percent of the design phase of the bridge project is complete, then the permitting process will begin.

The pedestrian bridge will also provide access to the existing Riverwalk in Columbia. The park access area will include parking and restrooms. It is expected to become a vibrant connection for hikers, kayakers, and river enthusiasts, further enriching the City of West Columbia.
