Plane headed to Columbia crashes near Calhoun County line

A plane traveling to Owens Field Airport in Columbia crashed in a field in Orangeburg County on Saturday morning, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. There was one person aboard the airplane, the FAA reported, and that person died in the crash.

A single-engine Beech BE-35 crashed in a field about 6 miles from the Orangeburg Municipal Airport around 10:20 a.m. on Saturday. It was found in the area of Farnum Road. The plane was headed toward Columbia’s Jim Hamilton-L.B. Owens Airport. It was first thought that the plane crashed in Calhoun County. (Owens Field – Dan Rosenfeld Photo Below)
