Overnight storm knocks out power in some areas of Lexington County
A strong wind and rain storm moved through Lexington County beginning Monday night into early Tuesday morning. Parts of the county, in the Chapin/Lake Murray area, were under a tornado warning.
The storm caused more than 3,000 power outages in Lexington County at one point. There are reports of trees down and damaged power lines, but it is not known yet if any tornadoes touched down. Dominion Energy repair trucks were out in the Westover Acres neighborhood of West Columbia Tuesday morning. Homes in that area lost power overnight.
Tuesday afternoon and evening will bring another chance for scattered thunderstorms. A couple could be strong, but the severe risk is lower than the past couple days, according to the NWS-Columbia. Heavy rain and possible damaging wind gusts would be the main hazard in any strong to marginally severe storm.
