Lexington County, S.C. — One person died, and another was seriously injured in a house fire early Tuesday morning in the 100 block of Gillfield Court.

At approximately 6 a.m., Lexington County Fire Service responded to reports of a structure fire, along with Irmo Fire District, Lexington County EMS, and the Town of Lexington Police Department.

When crews arrived, they found a two-story home with heavy flames coming from the back of the house. Reports indicated that one person was still inside. Firefighters made several rescue attempts but were forced to retreat due to extreme heat and fire conditions.

Two firefighters were injured during the response and were taken to Lexington Medical Center by EMS. Both have since been released and are expected to return to duty for their next shift.

One resident died at the scene. A second person was transported to the burn center in Augusta for treatment.
