No mask mandate for Lexington 2 schools for the 2021-22 school year
Students or staff will not be required to wear masks in the Lexington Two School district in the 2021-2022 School Year. Teachers return to school Monday (Aug. 9.) Students cone back next Monday (Aug. 16.)
Lexington Two Superintendent Dr. Nicolas Wade said the the district Bboard meeting Thursday that a mask mandate is enforceable because state law prohibits it.
He said he is excited to return to a semblance of normalcy after two school years that have been affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
Wade said students and district staff can choose to wear a mask if they want. “It’s their absolute choice,” he said.
The district will clean, mist and provide personal protection equipment to those who want it. The COVID vaccine was made available to Lexington Two teachers and staff in the spring.
The district schedule will be five days of -in-person classes. No virtual option is being offered. The district will alter its plans if five percent of a school tests positive for COVID.
