New State Street businesses anticipating West Columbia’s Art on State, May 10 – Get All The Details
The City of West Columbia invites you to the 6th Annual Art on State from 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10, in the first three blocks of State Street, West Columbia.
Art on State features live music, food and drinks. Artists will be on hand to paint murals in the street and vendors will pack the Meeting Street Artisan Market – Night Edition. And there will be live music by Lucky Pocket Band, Civil Remedy, and Liz Carter.
Businesses on State Street will have specials for the event. And you can enjoy the beautiful view of the city skyline while strolling and immersing yourself in art. Bring the kids, because there will be sidewalk chalk for them to express their creativity.
This will be the first Art on State event for two new State Street businesses. Jay White is the owner of The Warehouse at 312 State St.
“We’ve just opened our Garden Center, right next door to The Warehouse, between us and the Old Mill Antique Mall. We’re looking forward to introducing the Garden Center to the community,” White said. “We have vintage and new items in the Garden Center, along with architectural salvage items and plants.”
White said his The Warehouse gets a high-volume of walking traffic during the Art on State events. “We get some of the biggest crowds we have for Art on State.”
In addition to the new Garden Center, White said he will have tables set up outside of The Warehouse with a Vintage and Makers Market on the premises.
“We’re going to present the work of 10 local artists, during Art on State, and we’re going to feature artist Barbara Youngue,” he said. “She is a well-known local artist. It will be a great night.”
Anna Huffman, the City of West Columbia’s Public Relations Director, echoes the comments of White. She said: “Art on State is a great opportunity to socialize with friends and family, pick up last-minute Mother’s Day gifts from a locally owned shop, or purchase handmade items from a vendor at the Meeting Street Artisan Market.”
Art on State is also a chance to see another new business.
Southern Custom Doors and Hardware just opened at 142 State St. It’s owners are Bill and Harriet Barrett. The ribbon was cut at the new business, Tuesday in a Cayce-West Columbia Chamber ceremony. During the ribbon-cutting Huffman reminded Southern Custom’s owners that Art on State is coming up on May 10.
“We have heard you like to have a party in the streets,” Bill Barrett said at the ribbon-cutting. “It’s one of the reasons we chose to move our business to West Columbia.”
White also gave another reason to come out for Art on State.
“We’ll have beer and wine, along with snacks in our parking lot,” he said. “We want folks to know there’s a lot to see down here in the 300 block of State Street, and we’ve got lots of free parking in our lot.” The City of West also provides several options for free parking, too.
It’s time to get out and kick off the spring in the streets of West Columbia. Don’t miss Art on State, May 10.
