New hotel planned for Lexington

A new 90-to-100-room Marriott Hotel is being planned for Lexington’s Main Street.

Town of Lexington’s Events and Media Coordinator Jennifer Dowden confirmed that the hotels is coming, Tuesday morning.

“It’s a game-changer,” said Lexington Mayor Steve MacDougall. “What it brings and what it does changes Lexington forever, in a positive way.”

MacDougall said town leaders have worked diligently to re energize downtown Lexington with projects like the Icehouse Amphitheater. The effort has helped revitalize the town’s business district.

On Friday, Southern Visions Real Estate announced the sale of a 1.4 acre lot , in the heart of Lexington, at 116 East Main Street, Southern Visions agent, Chris Farley, represented the seller in this transaction. The buyer was Lexington Hospitality, operated by the (Raj) Champaneri family.

The anticipated opening date for the hotel i late 2019 or early 2020. Champaneri developed the Aloft Hotel in the Columbia Vista, last year.

The lot where the hotel will be built is where the Sessions department store, once stood. The store closed in 2000. Rendering contributed.
