New homes and commercial space could be coming to Center Street in West Columbia, according to newspaper report
The West Columbia Planning Commission approved the first step of a plan for the building of 27 houses and commercial space on more than two acres of property bounded by Cromwell Street, between Center Street and Augusta Street, in West Columbia. The site is one block off of Meeting Street (US 1.)
The vote by the planning commission to establish a Residential Planned Urban Development on 2.09 acres at and near 723 and 725 Center St. passed at a Monday meeting. The report of the plan for the 27 homes and commercial space was reported by Caleb Bozard of the Post and Courier, Friday. The article (Click Here) included a graphic provided by Kimley Horn.
Previously, there has been interest in residential development of the property. In February of 2021, a sign announcing a public hearing to rezone the land from commercial to residential was placed on the site. That project did not materialize in 2021. Below are photos of the site in 2021.
