New historic marker unveiled for the Cayce Colored School/Cayce Elementary School/Ida A. Bull School
A new historic marker was unveiled, Friday, for the Cayce Colored School/Cayce Elementary School/Ida A. Bull School. The school was on Wilkinson Street in Cayce. There was a ceremony held to commemorate the occasion and a good crowd turned out, including Cayce Mayor Elise Partin.
Also, Cayce’s Mayor Pro Tem, James “Skip” Jenkins, spoke at the event. “You don’t know where you are going if you don’t know where you came from,” stated Jenkins on the important role the school played in local history.
The new historical marker was made possible by donations and collaborations from the Neriah Community Development Corporation, Brookland Cayce – Lakeview Empowerment Center, Cayce Elementary Alumni, and the South Carolina Department of Archives and History. (Cayce Historical Museum photos)
