National Weather Service issues preliminary damage report from first of 2 Wednesday tornadoes

The National Weather Service survey team reported on the first of two Lexington County EF-0 tornadoes that touched down, Wednesday. The other track will be finalized by a team heading out into the field Thursday. The area of the tornado, Wednesday, was around Old Orangeburg Road and Beckman Road, near Indian River Golf Club. Southwest of South Congaree.

The first tornado had winds of 75 mph. It hit from 10:44 a.m. until 10:51 a.m. It’s path was almost 3 miles in length. The tornado was 50 yards wide.

There were no injures resulting from the tornado.

The EF scale is used to describe the strength of tornadoes based on what kind of damage they inflict. An EF-0 has max wind gusts between 65 and 85 mph.
