Motorcycle rider killed in Lexington County crash – Coroner identifies

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Sunday on I-20 West. It occurred, according to Master Trooper David Jones, at the 53 mile marker near Two Notch Road in Lexington County.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the motorcyclist who died and said the accident happened just before 1:30 p.m.

According to Fisher, Mr. Richard Z. McCormick, 30, of Lexington died in the crash.

He was the driver of a 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle traveling west on I-20 when the motorcycle left the road to the right. McCormick was thrown from the motorcycle. After the crash, he was taken to the hospital from the scene, by EMS and later died from injuries sustained in the collision. No other vehicles were involved.

They rider was not wearing a helmet.
