Mary Stevenson

Mary Alice Smith Stevenson, 93 of Cayce, SC passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022.  Mary Stevenson was a lady and true southern belle, who enjoyed sewing and working in her garden. Mary is survived by her children, Sheryl temple, Larry Gene Stevenson (Thea), Ronald Clayton Stevenson (Vickie Jean), her grandchildren, Guy (Crystal) Gardner, Erick (Miranda) Gardner, Gary (Joy) Gardner, Crissi Estes, Charles Moorehouse, Nicole Morin and Tracey Kinsey; great grandchildren, Daniel Gardner, Chris Gardner, Pierce Gardner, Taylor Gardner, Devin Gardner, John Eric Gardner, Blake Moorehouse, Kathryn Morehouse, Joshua Dayton and Jacob Morin and her eight great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Randy Redmond, Deborah Ann Mixon, Wilbur Redmond and Gregory Redmond. Additional family members, Mildred Corbett, Emily Tyler, Roger Tyler, Paula, Barbara Ellen and Elaine Bennett. 

A service to celebrate her life will take place at Moseley Funeral Home chapel on Sunday, February 6th, at 2:00 pm with visitation following immediately after at the funeral home.

Betty Schmidt

Betty Hadwin Schmidt, 89, peacefully passed away in her sleep January 26 at her home in Cayce, SC.  Betty was born in Hampton County and is the daughter of Wade Hampton Hadwin and Minnie Way Hadwin.  She went to nurse’s training for two years in Columbia after high school but ultimately became a real estate agent for four decades and worked at McGee Real Estate on Meeting Street.  She was named Salesman of the Year in 1989.

Betty was a member of Garden Club and served in her chapter of USABDA, a ballroom dancing association.  She was also a former member of Delta Sigma Phi sorority.  Betty loved playing cards with friends and going on junkets with her friends to Mississippi, Cherokee, NC, and Las Vegas.  Betty also loved gardening in her own yard and keeping it as beautiful as possible.  Betty was charming and charismatic, with a fantastic sense of humor and a smile that was extraordinary.  

She is survived by her children, Bobby and Beth, her two living grandchildren Dakota Langston and Alexis Schmidt.  She is predeceased by her parents, Wade and Minnie Hadwin, her brother Jimmy Hadwin, sister Jackie Malone and by grandson, Tyler Williams.

There will be a celebration of her life held on Saturday, January 29 at her home at 405 Rocky Lane from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  Please bring a memory of Betty to share.

William F. “Bill” Harrell Sr.

West Columbia – Funeral services for William F. “Bill” Harrell Sr., 73, were held Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Westside Baptist Church, 2100 Platt Springs Road, West Columbia, SC 29169.  The family will receive family and friends from 10 am -11 am in the worship center with a celebration of life service at 11 am at the same location.  

Mr. Harrell passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.  Born December 15, 1948 in Ft. Benning, Georgia, he was the son of the late, Warrant Officer William M. Harrell Jr. (killed in action, Korea, April 12, 1953), and the late, Command Sargent Major Robert R. Vance.

Mr. Harrell was a retired law enforcement officer, serving communities in Richland and Lexington Counties throughout his career.  Most notable was his service to the citizens of the Town of Springdale, SC where he finished his career as a D.A.R.E. Officer where he taught students decision making skills for a safe and healthy living.  

As a young man, Mr. Harrell lived in eastern France near the Luxembourg, German, and Belgian borders.  He was active in the scouts which led him to many other European countries.  Scouting, along with his parents, instilled in him the values of discipline, family, honor, and integrity – attributes that would lead him to his pursuit of Eagle Scout and a successful career in law enforcement. Not to mention – a devoted family man.  

An avid ancestral historian, he traced his paternal and maternal family roots back generations – all well-documented in scrapbooks and albums.  

A man of faith, he served as a deacon, youth mentor, on the bereavement committee, Sunday school teacher, and mission team leader.  His most cherished position was his service as Sunday school teacher for the Mary Adkins Women’s Sunday School Class at Westside Baptist Church.   In addition to his service to the Lord, he was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and the Sons of Confederate Veterans where he served as Chaplain and Historian of his local chapter. 

Surviving is his loving wife of 44 years Priscilla A. “Patsy” Harrell of West Columbia; son, John J. “Jay” Harrell (Holly) of Lugoff, SC; daughter, Melissa H. “Missy” Womack (Brent) of Rutherfordton, NC; son, William F. “Will” Harrell Jr. (Kristie)of Irmo, SC; mother, Joyce L. “Jo” Vance of Lexington, SC; sister, Alison V. Bass of Lexington, SC; brother-in-law, Malcolm Hanger of Lexington, SC; sister-in-law Helen Hanger of Lexington, SC; niece, Amber Collins (David) of Lexington, SC; nephew, Mason Hanger (Luisa) of West Columbia, SC; and niece, Alex Bass of Pelion, SC with whom he shares his birthday. 

Grandchildren: Andrew Harrell (Anielka) of Greeneville, TN; Brenton Womack of Spartanburg, SC; John Harrell (Abigail) of Chang Rai, Thailand; Allie Gonzalez (Adrian) of Columbia, SC; Nicky Harrell of Seneca, SC; Trace Harrell (Hallie) of Lexington, SC; Jamie Womack of Rutherfordton, NC.

Ella Marie Morton Keadle

Ella Marie Morton, 83 of Chapin, SC Passed away on 28 January 2022 At The Heritage at Lowman Home.
She was born in West Virginia. 

She is survived by Siblings, Shirley Ann Perry and Barbara Lee Evers. She was preceded in death by her brother Roger Morton
Her surviving children, David Scott Singletary, Barbara Ann De La Cruz, Tillman Barry Keadle.
She was preceded in death by her son Van Waldo Finch.
A Memorial Service Will be on the 5th of  February at 1:00pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 7449 Broad River Rd., Irmo, SC. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 pm at the church. 
 

George Henry Flowers

George Henry Flowers 69, of West Columbia, SC, entered into eternal rest on Monday January 24, 2022. He was the son of the late James Gilbert Flowers and Ella Leigh Flowers.

Born July 22, 1952 in Conway, SC, George was one of nine brothers and three sisters. He fought the good fight of faith, he finished his course where there is now a crown of righteousness, and a place in heaven prepared for him. He was always faithful in church attendance, tithing, and generosity: a true Christian friend and brother. He was always in the middle of church events and family gatherings. Everyone appreciated his company. He was always kind and caring with a warm smile and a handshake, having his faith firmly anchored in the finished work of Jesus Christ. As much as was in human strength, he sought to live a holy life.

George loved his children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, church family and his many friends, and all loved him. His family is left to cherish his memory and to continue the example of service that he lived.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Audrey Flowers, sons Ryan Flowers of Cayce, Travis Flowers of West Columbia, daughter Kelly DiSalvo and her husband Gaetano DiSalvo of West Columbia, four grandsons, Anthony John DiSalvo, Peter JosephDiSalvo, Mark George DiSalvo and David ReaganDiSalvo.

George was preceded in death by his son KarltinMasato Flowers.

George was in the car sales business for the past several years.

His family would like to express their thanks for all of the condolences and sympathy that they have received.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm at Abundant Life Assembly, 105 Lincoln St, West Columbia.

Visitation was Saturday January 29th.

Burial followed at Abundant Life Memorial Gardens, 1116 Delree St, West Columbia.
