Below are some answers to questions asked of Green.
Why are you running for office?
I decided to run after nobody would step up and demand the Wilton Road Bridge be fixed. The political elites have failed us. For almost two years this road has been out. I will get it fixed, or I won’t run for re-election.
Why is West Columbia (Dist 1) important to you?
It is the place where I live, attend church, and operate my business. I love the area and it’s people, and want to see it grow to be the best it can be.
What is your vision as a part of city government?
I envision a city government that is more open and transparent, more responsive to the needs of our citizens, and fiscally responsible. As taxpayers, we should expect a few things in return for our tax dollars: smooth roads, proper trash service, safe water and sanitary sewer systems to name a few. I believe we all pay too much in taxes and now is the time to draw the line. This is why I have signed a pledge not to raise any new taxes.
I also believe a city councilman needs to give the best constituent service possible. They are literally on call 24/7. I will make it a promise to return every call or email.
Describe your background, as it relates to politics?
My involvement in the political process in 1992 when I worked for David Beasley who was running for Governor at the time. Since then I’ve assisted numerous good-government groups and volunteered my time over these 25 years to help elect community leaders who care about people, not politics. Last year I was one of several candidates for a county-wide office, and while I came up short in that race, many asked me to seek this office and I’m grateful and encouraged by their support.
More information on Green
I graduated from Bob Jones University and now work in real estate and property management. I am also a member of Grace Baptist Church and the Lexington County Republican Party.
In conclusion, Green said: I’m passionate about helping people and I’ve always seen challenges as opportunities. As a small businessman, I know how to work with others to reach a goal. I’ll put that mentality to work for my neighbors here in our wonderful city.
