Michael Mayo, owner of Palmetto Outdoor, received the Capital City/Lake Murray Country Tourism Advocate Award, Thursday. His ecotourism business has attracted thousands each year to the Saluda and Congaree rivers to tube, canoe and kayak.

Mayo said: “I was shocked to receive the award.” he also said: “One of the greatest moments in my career.”
West Columbia Mayor Tem Miles resented Mayo with the award.

“I am so proud of Michael Mayo and thankful for all he does,” Miles said. The awards ceremony was held at Harbison Theatre on the campus of Midlands Technical College.
