Medical event preceded fatal crash, coroner identifies man who died
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who was pronounced deceased following a motor vehicle collision that occurred on U.S. Highway 378 near the intersection of Shorty Road at approximately 6:30 p.m., Tuesday.
According to Fisher, Mr. Michael Wayne Harrison, 75, of Gilbert was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Harrison was turning left onto the road from a private driveway when his vehicle was struck by a vehicle traveling west on U.S. 378.
Mr. Harrison was wearing a seat belt when the collision occurred. The driver and passenger of the other vehicle were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An autopsy, conducted on Wednesday, concluded that Mr. Harrison’s death was the result of a natural medical event, which occurred immediately prior to the collision.
