A man who was hit by a vehicle and knocked off of the Gervais Street Bridge has died. The Columbia Police Department announced Sunday that Michael Derrick, 24, of Snellville, GA, had died.

After being hit, Derrick was taken to the hospital for treatment of severe injuries. He was hit and knocked over the bridge railing a week ago, Sunday.
William Joseph Livingston, 30, has been charged with driving under the influence. Now that Derrick has died, the charge has been upgraded to DUI involving death, according to the CPD.
On June 1, Livingston was granted a $1 million bond, but he remained in jail since first being booked. His bond is now denied, the CPD said.
