Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died as a result of a motor vehicle collision that occurred on South Lake Drive at Interstate 20 at approximately 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
According to Coroner Fisher, Mr. Michael John Callanan, 72, of Lexington was pronounced dead at the scene. Callanan was southbound on South Lake Drive when he failed to stop for a red light, entered the intersection, and collided with a vehicle exiting from Interstate 20. South Lake Drive was closed for a period of time, Tuesday, to clear the site after the wreck.
Callanan was wearing a seat belt when the collision occurred, Fisher said, and the driver of the other vehicle was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The collision remains under investigation by the Lexington Police Department.
