Man had threatened his sister, broke into her home, before he was shot and killed, according to Lexington Police report
Lexington Police detectives continue to investigate an early morning shooting death that occurred in the Mallard Lakes neighborhood.
At approximately 5 a.m., officers were dispatched to a home on the 100 block of Widgeon Drive for a home invasion in progress. When officers arrived they were met in the driveway by a man who had been shot several times and his wife who had been in the house during the shooting. Officers entered the house and found a deceased man who had been shot several times in the living room. He has been identified as Matthew Lewis Stanfield, age 33 of Colorado.
The man who had been shot was transported by EMS to the hospital where he was admitted with non-life threatening injuries. Investigators found that Matthew Stanfield is the brother of the woman who lives at the home and that he’s made threats to her in the past.
During this incident, Matthew Stanfield attempted to enter the house through the front door, the garage, and then broke through a side door entering the home where the woman’s husband became involved in a violent physical altercation with him. Matthew Stanfield and the man both had firearms and exchanged gunfire resulting in his death and the other man being shot several times.
Investigators found that Matthew Stanfield brought a rifle that he used during this incident along with a large bag with extra magazines with ammo, a ballistic vest, and other items to aid him.
