A man died Saturday in a kayaking incident on the Saluda River, Saturday. The incident took place above 500 Wildlife Parkway in Columbia at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Gregory Hinson, Jr., 27, of Bundrick Road in Winnsboro, was transported from the scene by Richland County EMS to Prisma Health Richland Memorial Hospital where he died at 7:20 p.m., Saturday.

An autopsy indicated that the cause of death was due to asphyxiation due to drowning.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office and the Columbia Police Department are investigating the incident. Any additional information provided about the incident will be updated when received.
