
Man charged with attempted murder in connection with the Jun 10, shooting of a West Columbia Police officer
A West Columbia man, Thomas Deanglo Waring 32, has been charged with attempted murder. He is accused of shooting a West Columbia police officer earlier this month.

According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division arrest warrants, officers responded to a shots-fired report on June 10 in West Columbia. Upon the officers arrival, Waring, SLED says, came out of an apartment and allegedly pointed a handgun at an officer. Waring fired multiple rounds, striking a police officer in the right arm. Gunfire was exchanged between Waring and police officers. The officer and Waring were taken to the hospital after the exchange. hospital, the SLED warrant states.
Waring’s arrest is based on video of the incident, statements, and evidence collected during the investigation.
Waring was also charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person convicted of certain crimes.
Waring was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center. The case will be prosecuted by the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
