Deputies arrested a man Monday night in connection with an assault and a fire that heavily damaged a house near Lake Murray.

Jeremiah Humphries, 36, is charged with domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and two counts of third degree arson, according to arrest warrants.

“Based on witness statements gathered during our investigation, Humphries assaulted his girlfriend after arguing with her in front of a home in the 300 block of Porth Circle in Lexington,” Sheriff Jay Koon said. “Detectives believe Humphries then set the victim’s car on fire, which in turn caught the house on fire.”

Humphries, a Lexington resident, is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center while he awaits a bond hearing.
