Lights out at Lexington intersection after crash destroys signal box

A signal light box was destroyed in a vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon. The crash resulted in injuries and occurred at Sunset Boulevard and Hope Ferry Road. The signals lights are out and officers are directing traffic at the intersection.

Drive alert if passing through the area. Avoid the area if possible. According to a Lexington Police Department report, work will probably go on through the evening. It may take until 10 p.m. or later before the signal lights are working again.

  • If you can avoid Sunset Blvd./US-378 in or out of the Town of Lexington this afternoon, please do so.
  • Sunset Blvd. will be extremely congested for the next several hours as officers work together to move traffic through the area.
  • If passing through, please be watchful and alert for officers in the roadway.
  • Distracted or impatient driving can cause additional collisions which slow everyone down even more.
