Lexington woman identified in one of two fatalities in I-20 crash

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the two individuals who were killed in a lccothree-vehicle accident at approximately 3:25 AM on Saturday, August 6, 2016, at I-20 near the 62 mile marker in Lexington, as Franchescha Hope Rogers-Martinez, age 27, of Lexington, and Jarrad Denard Blade, 32, of Decatur, Georgia.

Ms. Rogers-Martinez was traveling alone and was pronounced dead at the scene from the injuries she sustained.  

Blade was also pronounced dead at the scene from the injuries he sustained in the accident.  An occupant in his vehicle was transported to an area hospital.  

Autopsies on Ms. Rogers-Martinez and Mr. Blade will be performed on Sunday, 

The accident remains under investigation by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Also on I-20 Saturday, Around 10:28 a.m., the driver of a 2007 Chevrolet, who has been identified as Walter Antonio Simmons, 51, of Elgin, died after his car was hit by a tractor trailer switching lanes, in the westbound lanes of I-20, near Mile Marker 67. Simmons was taken to a hospital where he died at 11:09 a.m., according to Richland County coroner Gary Watts.
