Lexington 2, and Lexington 4 schools move to an eLearning day for Friday, no in-person classes

With forecasts calling for potential severe weather effects here in the Midlands from Hurricane Helene, and in an abundance of caution, Lexington Two schools will move to an eLearning day on Friday, September 27.

All afternoon and evening activities are canceled for Friday, including athletic events, extracurricular activities, after-school programs, and adult education classes.

The National Weather Service is predicting that Hurricane Helene will bring severe weather to our area overnight tonight and into Friday.  In a briefing early this afternoon, National Weather Service officials shared models and cited high confidence in strong wind gusts for our area of 40-55 mph, and possibly higher, which exceed the SC Department of Education’s guidelines for safe school bus operations. In addition, conditions may be favorable overnight and into Friday for tornadoes to develop. (Note: We’ve included an attachment from the National Weather Service’s 12:30 p.m. briefing, with their permission, showing predicted winds in and around our area).

Teachers will prepare students for Friday’s eLearning day. You’ll find flyers on eLearning from the Home and our technology help desk here. Students’ assignments will be posted, and teachers will be available during virtual office hours, as outlined in our eLearning from the Home flyer.

The safety and well-being of our Lexington Two students, their families, and employees are always our top concern. We urge everyone to be weather aware and prepare for potential power outages and other severe weather impacts.

The district will continue to monitor weather conditions and will communicate with Lexington Two stakeholders should any further updates be necessary.

Lexington School District Four will also transition to an eLearning day for all schools, Friday, September 27, 2024.
