Lexington man identified as Lake Murray drowning victim

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts released the name Tuesday of the individual whose body was recovered in Lake Murray, Monday.

The death occurred after a swimming mishap Sunday afternoon at approximately 1 p.m.

The incident occurred in the lake near the marina located at 1639 Marina Road, Irmo, near the Lake Murray Marina, and Liberty (Tap Room Bar and Grill) on the Lake.

Rasheed Taylor, 47, of Libby Lane, Lexington, was swimming with his family when he disappeared in the water. His body was located Monday at approximately 5:30 p.m. in close proximity to where he disappeared. An autopsy indicated that the cause of death was due to asphyxiation due to fresh water drowning in Lake Murray.

SC DNR is investigating the incident.
