Lexington County woman arrested on ill-treatment of animals charges
Lexington County Animal Services investigators have arrested a Lexington woman accused of ill-treating various species of animals.

Julia Evans Pickett, 29, is charged with two counts of felony ill-treatment of animals, according to arrest warrants.
“In late December, Lexington County Animal Services investigators received information regarding animal welfare concerns at two Lexington County properties occupied by Pickett,” said Brittany Jones, director of Lexington County Animal Services. “Based on the information provided, we investigated and subsequently executed court-authorized search warrants at both properties.”
Numerous animals were located across both properties, according to Jones.
“The conditions we observed on the properties prompted the removal of all of the animals for their safety and care,” Jones said. “Approximately 100 animals were located and removed. Some animals had, unfortunately, already died. More animals might not survive, or might have to be humanely euthanized despite ongoing care efforts.”
Jones said investigators transported all surviving animals to appropriate facilities, where they are receiving medical care.
The investigation remains ongoing at this time, and more charges are expected against Pickett, according to Jones.
Pickett was located at one of the properties and taken into custody Dec. 31. She has since been released from the Lexington County Detention Center after meeting the conditions of her bond.
The 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office will be prosecuting this case.
