A fire broke out at a mobile home near Pelion late Thursday evening, resulting in the death of one individual.

Lexington County 911 dispatched Fire Service and Emergency Medical Services personnel a residence in the 500 block of Tindal Road just before 11:30 p.m. in reference to a mobile home fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed a fully-involved mobile home fire with heavy flames coming from the structure. Firefighters began an external fire attack and water-shuttle operations were established to ensure enough water was on scene to fight the fire. Firefighters then proceeded inside the home to continue extinguishing the fire.

After entering the home, firefighters discovered the deceased individual inside of the home. It is believed that the individual was the sole occupant of the home and no other injuries were reported.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division officials and Lexington County Sheriff’s Department investigators will investigate the cause and origin of the fire, while the Lexington County Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased individual and release cause of death.
