Lexington County Fire, EMS respond to blaze in Chapin

Lexington County Fire Service, EMS responds to residential fire in Chapin community Chapin fire 3Thursday evening

County of Lexington emergency personnel responded to a residential structure fire in the Chapin community Thursday evening.

Just before 9 p.m., Lexington County 911 dispatched Lexington County Fire Service and EMS to the 100 block of Turkey Ridge Drive in reference to a residential structure fire. Upon arrival, flames and smoke could be seen coming from the roof of the home.

In short order, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire. There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.

Chapin fire 1 (1)Preliminary investigation suggests that the fire was caused by discarded smoking materials left on the back porch. The fire then spread to the roof and attic portion of the home.

Members of the Chapin Police Department, Irmo Fire Department and Columbia Fire Department were also on scene to assist.
