Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the individual who died in a two-car accident in the 1100 block of Main Street in the South Congaree area of Lexington County at approximately 1:03 a.m., Sunday.

According to Fisher, Mr. Dwane Zedekiah Sturkie, 77, of Columbia was traveling eastbound on Main Street when a vehicle traveling westbound crossed the center line and hit him head-on. Mr. Sturkie was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead due to the injuries he sustained in the accident. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The South Congaree Police Department and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office investigated the incident.
