Lexington 2 and Lexington 1 schools will be on an eLearning day Thursday
Lexington Two schools will be on an eLearning day Thursday, January 23.
Lingering snow and ice is expected to refreeze tonight and into the early morning hours Thursday, creating unsafe travel conditions, particularly on neighborhood and secondary roads. Right now, the weather forecast does not call for temperatures to get above freezing on Thursday until roughly midday, and only for a short period of time.
Afternoon and evening activities are canceled Thursday, including athletic events, extracurricular activities, after-school programs, and adult education classes.
We will continue to monitor road and travel conditions with local and county officials. We will plan to communicate the school day schedule for Friday, January 24, with families and staff by Thursday afternoon through district communications channels, websites and social media, and traditional media.
Lexington 1 to go to e-Learning on Thursday
What’s happening: Lexington One will continue with eLearning on Thursday, January 23, 2025, because of the potential for hazardous travel due to ice on the roads. After-school activities are canceled on Wednesday and Thursday.
Why the district made this decision: District officials spent this morning assessing primary and secondary road conditions throughout our district. Snowfall reports submitted to the National Weather Service indicate that our area has received accumulations of up to 1.3 inches. With today’s cold temperatures, very little melting is expected. The forecast predicts a brief window—no more than four hours—when temperatures will rise above freezing by only one or two degrees before dropping into the mid-teens tonight. This is predicted to cause any remaining moisture on the roads to refreeze, creating hazardous driving conditions.
