1-I-26

Lane reversal on I-26 between Columbia and Charleston will end at noon Wednesday

Lane reversal operations on I-26 in South Carolina will cease at noon Wednesday so that crews can seek shelter at safe locations outside of the storm’s projected path, according to the SC Department of Public Safety.

Law enforcement will begin at noon Wednesday breaking down the lane reversal on I-26 between Charleston and Columbia. If you still wish to use the reversed lanes to evacuate, you may do so until noon, Wednesday.

But entry onto the reversed lanes (I-26 Eastbound) will be blocked after the noon cut-off. I-26 westbound will remain open for travel at all times. Get more information on evacuation routes at http://scemd.org or http://511sc.org.

The lane reversal has resulted in heavy traffic, that was forced off of I-26, into Columbia, especially in the Bluff Road area where there is an I-77 exit. Parts of Lexington County, near Cayce and other areas near I-26 exits have been heavily congested during the lane reversal.
