Infant was killed in crash Sunday night, says Lexington County coroner

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher released information on the two-vehicle crash that took the life of a two month old infant boy. The crash occurred in the 6900 block of Edmund Hwy shortly after 9:00 P.M. on August 13, 2023 in Lexington County.

Fisher states that a small SUV traveling westbound on Edmond Hwy toward Pelion was struck in the rear by a pick-up truck also traveling westbound. The rear-end collision caused the SUV, occupied by two adults and the infant child, to veer off of the right side of the roadway, strike a tree and a power pole, and overturn.

At this time the name of the infant will not be released due to family notifications continuing. The two month old infant boy, who was restrained in a car seat, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival due to his injuries. The two adults, who are the parents of the infant boy were transported to an area hospital with severe injuries. The driver of the pick-up truck was also transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The South Carolina MAIT continues to investigate this incident as well as the Lexington County Coroner’s Office.
