Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died in a single- vehicle accident in the 100 block of Wagner Highway at approximately 3:40 a,m. Tuesday, in Lexington County.

According to Fisher, Mr. Richard Earl Barnes, 49, of Leesville, was a passenger in a Ford Ranger that was traveling on Wagner Highway towards Fairview Crossroads when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree head-on.

Mr. Barnes, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead while being transported to an area hospital. The driver of the vehicle, who was also not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. His condition is currently unknown.

The accident is being investigated by the SCHP MAIT Team.
