I-77 Southbound lanes closing at 9 p.m. Friday – SCDOT encourages drivers to plan detours
This caused long lines of traffic on the streets leading into Cayce, West Columbia and Columbia when the Northbound lanes of I-77 were closed in March. Local drivers are instructed by the SCDOT to take local roads and streets as a detour. Interstate drivers are instructed to stay on I-26 and I-20 and get back onto I-77 from I-20. SCDOT also encourages drivers to plan their detour routes in advance.
The Southbound lanes of Interstate – 77 will be closed from the I-26 interchange, near Cayce, to Bluff Road, near Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, April 14 through Sunday, April 23 (9 total days) the lanes will be closed.
I-77 S from mile marker 0 to mile marker 5 will be closed. Crews will be performing bridge deck rehabilitation. The interchange from I-77 South to I-26 will also be closed during this time. Construction is scheduled to be completed Sunday, April 23. More information on the project can be found on the project’s website.
Real-time traffic and road closure information is always available at 511sc.org and on the SCDOT 511 mobile app.
