826 people were tested for Covid-19 at a drive-thru site in West Columbia, Tuesday.

The line of vehicles was steady and the test time was 5 minutes or less.

At the request of state Sen. Nikki Setzler and Rev. Dr. Charles B. Jackson Sr., Lexington Medical Center and the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control provided free COVID-19 testing at Brookland Baptist Church.

Lara Lott Moore, a Lexington Medical Center vice president, said she was pleased with the number who showed up for the tests.

“Rev. Jackson mentioned it to his congregation,” said Moore, that helped publicize it.

She also said the test can render peace of mind and allow those who may test positive a chance to quarantine and keep safe.

Thomas Tafel, of LMC’s Foundation, said Lexington Medical Center is a staple of the community, and has a role to help as many as possible.

“We want to take care of the community,” said Tafel.

It may take as much as a week before those tested get their results.

Moore said LMC has more test events planned in Lexington County. The next one is scheduled for Batesburg.
