On Friday, March 24, the I-77 northbound from the I-26 Interchange to the Bluff Road exit (Exit 5) were closed for the repair of several bridges. With I-77 closed, local drivers have been instructed by the SCDOT to take local roads and streets as a detour.

The result of the detour has resulted in the back up of traffic headed east from Lexington County into Columbia. Tuesday morning travel across the Gervais Street Bridge was moving slowly because of so many drivers being detoured.
