Habitat for Humanity breaks ground on house near Turner Memorial AME Church in West Columbia
Sponsors of a Central South Carolina Habitat for Humanity home near Turner Memorial AME Church in West Columbia broke ground on a new house for Janzenia, Wednesday. The house will be built at 1113 Monticello St. in West Columbia. It’s near Turner Memorial AME Church and the Brookland Lakeview Empowerment Center. Turner Memorial AME Church donated the lot upon which the home will set.
Rev, Kenneth Taylor, of Turner Memorial AME, said there is a lack of adequate housing and the new home will improve lives.
West Columbia Mayor Tem Miles welcomed the builders to West Columbia. The groundbreaking coincided International Women’s Day. Volunteers from the Junior League’s Woman’s Build program will work on the project. Other sponsors include: SC Blue Cross- Blue Shield, Aflac, BHE – GT&S, TD Bank and Bank of America.
