A groundbreaking  ceremony has been scheduled for  5:30 p.m. on April 18. (the date was changed from April 14.)  It is for the new Lexington School District 2 elementary school to be built next to Busbee Creative Center for the Arts.

The plan is to build the elementary school off of 12th Street Extension, in Cayce.

Dr. Bill James, Lexington 2 superintendent, announced the date of the groundbreaking at the Lexington 2 Board meeting, Thursday.

Don Icenhower, the district’s chief operations officer, said the City of Cayce approved the site and foundation plans for the school, Thursday.

Architect Todd Sease presented renderings for the school in November. The design received a  new look so it would have a more traditional appearance.

Students from Davis Early Childhood Center and Taylor Elementary will move to the new school when it is completed.
