The City of West Columbia conducted a groundbreaking ceremony for West Columbia’s Interactive Art Park, Tuesday.

“We’re bridging the past, present and future,” said West Columbia Mayor Bobby Horton of the park that will blend interactive art, landscaping, and parking, at 435 Meeting Street, behind Terra’s restaurant.

Tem Miles, West Columbia Mayor Pro-Tem, said the park will allow for connectivity between the large new Savage Craft Ale Works brewery coming to Center Street, Meeting Street and the restaurant and retail features of State Street.

The park is scheduled to open in April.

Scott Slatton of the Municipal Association of South Carolina was also on hand for the groundbreaking. The MASC contributed a grant of $25,000 for the park. Slatton said the park is a feature to make West Columbia a great city of South Carolina.

Also on hand were State Sen. Nikki Setzler and Rep. Micah Caskey, along with members of West Columbia City Council.

The park is billed as one-of-a-kind that will feature musical events, art displays, artists booths and a farmer’s market. It also offers parking space for patrons of the area’s restaurants and users of Riverwalk.
