
Gray Collegiate head basketball coach has resigned, search for new coach underway
Gray Collegiate Academy (GCA) announced a change in the leadership of its boys basketball program, Wednesday. Head Coach Carlos Powell has submitted his resignation, which was accepted by GCA Principal Dr. Brian Newsome.
Dr. Newsome said, “The Gray family thanks and appreciates Coach Powell’s leadership this past season and we wish him well on his future endeavors. We have begun the search for our next head coach to lead our championship boys basketball program.”
GCA has earned and won six Class 2A state championships in boys basketball: 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Under the South Carolina High School League’s reclassification and realignment process, GCA played in Class 4A in the 2025 season, reaching the Lower State semi-finals.
